According to the Central Bureau of Statistics Hod Hasharon is home to 56,000 inhabitants (as of 2015). The town is ranked 8 of 10 on the socio-economic scale.
In 1965 the villages of Magdiel, Ramataim, Kfar Hadar, and Ramat Hadar were unified under a new municipality called Hod Hasharon. Since then additional neighborhoods were added to Hod Hasharon including Neve Hadar, Shehunat Haprahim neighborhood, Gil Amal, Ganei Zvi, Neve Neeman, Hapoalim neighborhood, Shikun Mizrahi, Shikun Giora, Shikun Amami, the Greenberg block, and the new 200 Block neighborhood. The 200 Block neighborhood is located in the Northeastern part of Hod Hasharon. It sits on a main road that connects to Route 531, close to the train station and the Raanana-Kfar Saba intersection.
The Magdiel neighborhood was established in 1925 when founders, together with the Israel Land Development Company, purchased 420 hectares from the Arab village of Biar Adas. That very year, residents of the new settlement celebrated the opening of the first synagogue.
The Ramataim neighborhood was established in 1925 as a “moshava” or colony of private homes with the support of a Dutch benefactor. In the twenty years that followed, the neighborhoods Poalim Aleph, Poalim Bet, Neve Hadar, and Shikun Giora were added. The Ramataim moshava was the first municipality declared after the founding of the State of Israel. In 1952 the settlements Ramataim and Kfar Hadar were merged into one municipality.
Kfar Hadar was founded in the 1920s when “Halutzim”, Hebrew pioneers, purchased lands from a local Bedouin tribe. Their livelihood came mainly from growing citrus crops.
Ramat Hadar was founded in 1939 by German members of the fourth “Aliya” as part of the “Tower and Stockade” scheme. In 1962 Ramat Hadar was unified with Hadar-Ramataim, itself a product of the merger between Ramataim and Kfar Hadar. Ramat Hadar is located in Western Hod Hasharon, bordered by neighborhoods Neve Hadar to the South, Ramot Menahem to the East, Ganei Zvi to the Northwest, and Highway 4 to the West.
Elementary schools include: Neve Naaman, Lapid, Yigal Alon, Hamagen, Reut, Rabin, Neve Moshe, Hod Hasharon Democratic School, Shilo and Tali. Junior High Schools include Zurim, Harishonim, Hashahar, and Atidim. Hod Hasharon also hosts a number of High Schools: Hadarim, Mosinzon, Sharon Technological, and Amal. A new school added in 2007 is Ramon High School named after the astronaut Ilan Ramon, northern Magdiel, to serve the residents of the 200 block and Gil Amal.
