The Neve Oz neighborhood in Petah Tikva was established in 1946 and was mostly secluded from other parts of the city until the 1970s. The area of Neve Oz was formerly an Arab owned orchard, purchased by the Histadrut. Neve Oz was originally built to provide housing for soldiers of the Jewish Brigade after World War II. The first settlers were veterans of the Jewish Brigade offered small 1.5 bedroom homes and a plot of land. Later, an additional 12 hectares were purchased from the Jewish National Fund with a small subsidy for each new resident. Thus, the neighborhood grew to 350 private homes. The municipality first paved a road in 1954 to connect the neighborhood with Petah Tikva, the Neve Oz elementary school and kindergartens were opened and a medical clinic and commissaries were also built. Among the first residents were the painters Zvi Shor and Tishby Zeev. In later years, Ben Gurion Junior High School and High School opened their doors, taking students from all parts of the city.
Lot sizes range from 265 square meters to 620 square meters, with the majority of houses being duplexes on 310 square meter lots on average. The average sale price of private residences in Old Neve Oz ranges from 3.8 million NIS to 5 million NIS depending on lot size and the level of investment in construction. A small house, approved for demolition and reconstruction, currently sells for 4.4 million NIS. Another example, a 3 year old house on a 315 square meter lots, with 4 floors including a basement and attic is being offered for 5.9 million NIS.
15 years ago, New Neve Oz was founded alongside Kfar Ganim and Old Neve Oz, which is how the original Neve Oz got its new name: Old Neve OZ. New Neve Oz is bordered by Haatzmaut Street to its South, Rabin Road to its West, and Dgania Street to its North. New Neve Oz features two sub-sections: South New Neve Oz and New Neve Oz. The homes in South New Neve Oz, located closer to Kfar Ganim Gimel, are topographically higher than those of New Neve Oz. Most of the lots in New Neve Oz are 250 square meters with an average price of around 3.8 million NIS. The price of houses constructed in the neighborhood is currently around 4.8 million NIS. The neighborhood’s population is composed of a relatively young residents. New Neve Oz is characterized by denser construction than its older sister Old Neve Oz.
