Ramat Hasharon was established in 1922. Although it was declared a municipality in 1949, it wasn’t officially recognized as a city until 2002. The city borders Herzliya to its North, Kibbutz Glil Yam to its West, Tel Aviv to its south, and Hod Hasharon to its East. Agricultural fields also surround Ramat HaSharon growing vegetables and strawberries.
Around 47,000 residents inhabit an area of around 18.5 Sq. Km. During the third “Aliyah” in the 1920s, new settlers arrived with a large Polish contingent purchasing an additional 510 dunams.
The Yarkon river runs through the jurisdiction of Ramat Hasharon, flowing into the city from the South East. Hadarim River is crosses Morasha and Neve Magen neighborhoods and flows into the Yarkon River South of Morasha junction.
Neighborhoods in Ramat Hasharon: Golan Quarter adjacent to Weizmann Blvd - shortly after Israel’s independence the neighborhood began to expand westward. One of its main streets is Lamerhav (to the expanse), in testament of the expansion, where home prices are considered high. Neve Rom can be found just South of Golan Quarter and East of Neve Rasko. On the eastern side of Ramat Hasharon is the Morasha neighborhood. Neve Rasko neighborhood sits west of Neve Magen neighborhood and south of Hadar Quarter. The Rasko Company built the neighborhood in 1968 on the former Matalon orchard. Hadar Quarter itself wasn’t established until 1977 and situated North of Neve Rasko, East of Sokolov, Ramat Hasharon’s main street, and South of Sderot Bialik. Alon Quarter is located East of the Hadar Quarter and East of Sokolov Street. A number of old homes still stand there, such as the local council house next to city hall. The neighborhood of Kiryat Yaarim sits on the Northern tip of West Ramat HaSharon. The neighborhood borders Herzliya’s Ramat Amirim neighborhood. Kiryat Yaarim was established in 1955 for Holocaust survivors from Lithuania. Neve Gan neighborhood was originally an independent colony or “moshava” named Kiryat Shaul, established in 1922 and later appropriated to Ramat HaSharon in 1954. In 2005, plans were approved for high-rise buildings to replace the private homes that still stood there at the time. Today, the Neve Gan neighborhood serves as a natural extension of Tel Aviv’s northernmost neighborhoods.
Schools in Ramat Hasharon: Osishkin, Golan, a trade school in Morasha neighborhood, Hasharon High School, Rotenberg Regional School, Amirim in Neve Rasko, Oranim in Neve Magen, Meri Doron Elementary School, Alumim Junior High School in Neve Magen, Kalman Junior High School, Yigal Alon High School, the agriculture school at Hakfar Hayarok, the Rimon Music Conservatory.
The prices of Apartment and private houses in Ramat Hasharon are around 15% higher than the prices in in Northern Tel Aviv.
