Kfar Saba was declared a city in 1962. It occupies an area of around 14 square Km. It is the commercial, educational, and medical services hub for the entire South Sharon region. Around the year 2000, Kfar Saba started to experience a shortage of areas for new construction. Most of the city’s land reserves have been exhausted and the city of Kfar Saba has lobbied to annex agricultural areas to the North and North East of the city. Further attempts have attempted to incorporate the Beit Berl College area to turn Kfar Saba into a “university town”. Currently, an urban master plan is currently being drafted which will map out all aspects of life in the city until 2030.
The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), estimates in 2023 there will be 94,000 residents in Kfar Saba living in 33,000 households. The population has been rising at an annual rate of 2.8%. Furthermore CBS ranks the city’s socio economic rating at 8 of 10. Amongst twelfth graders, the percentage of high school students eligible for matriculation in 2014-2015 was 77%.
In 2009 construction of a “Green Neighborhood” began in earnest, a neighborhood built using sustainable construction techniques in the Western part of the city, near Savionei Hakfar, the Aliya neighborhood, and Shikun Vatikim. Many home buyers have come from Raanana, where prices have risen significantly in recent years as a result of supply shortage. Another 24% of buyers come from Petah Tikva, Hod Hasharon, Ramat Gan, and Givataim, and only 16% are residents of Kfar Saba.
